Eurocan Cogeneration Plant
Client: West Fraser Timber
Location: Kitimat, BC
Balanced Power developed a 25 MW cogeneration project for a pulp and paper mill. The cogeneration plant was built around a refurbished steam turbine generator.
The old plant setup was inefficient, with significant energy lost in heat. The new system modernized the mill’s operations and performance to current industry standards. With the new steam turbine generator in place, the mill began producing electrical energy in addition to thermal energy required for the mill processes.
The project resulted in increased efficiency, reduced demand for purchased electrical power and overall reduced the cost of production.
